What Is EMDR and why is it so popular?

EMDR is an evidenced-based therapy which utilizes eye movement or other forms of bi-lateral stimulation on the brain to re-wire the nervous system and its response to traumatic or anxiety-inducing memories or triggers. The use of adaptive-information processing (AIP) allows to the brain to properly store threatening information as resolved, regaining your sense of power and vulnerability.

Why choose EMDR?

I am an official EMDR Institute Trained therapist, and utilize a holistic approach to move you forward with this therapy. This includes advance techniques, knowing when to adjust targets, and how to integrate other important therapies into your overall care. EMDR is not offered as a stand-alone treatment, and a holistic approach is best. I have experience using it for a variety of concerns. I prepare clients using the 8 Phase process, which begins with easy to understand information on what it is and how it works and somatic/nervous system regulation.

About Mary Miller, LMHC

My work is shaped by the realities of trauma, loss and the anxiety that has threaded itself through the different seasons of our lives. I move with my clients at the pace they need, listen to more than just what’s on the surface, and aim to help you identify how to restore peace and hope. What I create comes from a place of honesty and over 15 years of experience working with individuals, children and families who are experiencing various stressors and needs from advocacy work to crisis care and clinical counseling.

I have called Whidbey Island home for over 30 years and understand the unique challenges of finding quality support in our isolated community.
